Cold calls are when a professor randomly calls on a student during class. This can be quite intimidating for many students, especially if they weren’t expecting it! It’s common practice in law school because it encourages active participation and helps ensure that everyone is paying attention. Cold calling also allows the professor to gauge how well their students understand the material being taught.
