The laws governing cold calling can vary by country and even from state to state in the United States. Generally speaking, though, cold calls are regulated by the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) in the US. This law states that companies can’t make automated or prerecorded calls without prior consent. Companies also need to provide a way for people who don’t want to be called again to opt out of their list. Violating these regulations could result in hefty fines for businesses making those calls.
